Storytelling
I’ve been a storyteller for my entire life. There’s nothing that fills me with happiness more than entertaining people with jokes or anecdotes.
As a result I’m naturally drawn to writing – I wrote my first (awful) stories in high school and haven’t stopped. I managed to get my work some small recognition in college, in my campus literary magazine the Great Lake Review, where my first fictional short story, Marie, was featured.
I’ve spent less time writing fiction these days, but some examples of my work can be found on the Work page.
I’ve dabbled at standup comedy a time or two and done some stage plays in my day as well.
Online Content Creation
I’ve also contributed to The Irish Voice and their online sister publication IrishCentral.
At vingle.net I was turned my writing talents to content creation, creating daily unique content for the platform, on everything from love and relationship advice to video game recommendation to haiku.
For Coed.com I created content around breaking or trending news.
I am presently Editor-in-Chief and contributor for The Outsider Circle, where I also co-host a weekly podcast.
As an extension of my love for both storytelling and pop/nerd culture, I co-founded the website The Outsider Circle in August 2018 as a means of creating articles I want to create and establishing a platform for others to contribute to.
I have an attitude of “do it while you can” so our thinking is to build these creative projects while we’re young so as not to leave regret on the table. Balancing a full time job and trying to establish a website isn’t easy, but everyone has to have something that drives them, right?
As part of the site, my co-founder Leonel Lopez and I create weekly podcasts.
The Outsider Circle Podcast is a pop culture/entertainment comedy podcast, though we mix it up and try to touch on a variety of subjects. Variety Podcast is probably a more apt term. Check it out.
The bulk of these are also videocasts, the videos can be found on our Facebook page, and the audio can be found on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and Google Music.
Editing
Good editing is at the core of any well-written story, and I have spent time developing my own editorial styles as well as working as an editor for others.
At Puckermob.com I edited submissions from external content creators. This was a lot of proofreading and line editing, as each contributor came in with their own unique voice and style. Minor content edits for featuring on the website’s social media platforms.
I contracted with The Froebe Group as a Copyeditor, reviewing educational materials for digital distribution on platforms either internal to the publisher or for wider use like Blackboard. The work consisted mostly of quality assurance and checking for formatting issues.
If you are interested in my editing services for your own projects, I’m available! Rates can be discussed upon inquiry though typically fall into the range of $8 per page.
